what's in a date

When we shared the big announcement with my mom - we chose March 27, 2010 as the date of our wedding. Actually, I preferred the month of march because it's the birthday month of my dad who passed away last 2007. My dad died without seeing any of his 5 children getting married so I really wanted to have my wedding during his birthday month.

Kaya lang....

My mom, while teary-eyed that my dad would not be able to see me walking the aisle, suggested another date. I am from a family who believes in so many traditions, pamahiin, feng shui, etc., you name it and we have it. So, bring on the lunar calendar and let's decide on the date.

For 2010, lent starts early with Feb. 17 as Ash Wednesday and April 4 as Easter Sunday. Under strong objections of my mom and lolo, we should not get married during the lenten season. OKAY.

The number of our wedding date should only be either: 5, 8, or 0. reason? you wouldn't believe it but it has something to do with the strokes of the numbers... OKAY.

And what about the phase of the moon? Never during a Last Quarter. OKAY.

With that, 27 March 2010 is definitely out of the line.

How about before February 17? engk... february is not a good month either. kulang daw kz sa days. ooohhhh....

So January it is... 10 January ? engk.... going to last quarter of the moon.

30 January ? hmmm, ok, it's a full moon, ends in 0 and not within the Lent. OKAY

problem? December to January are peak months for wedding and with less than a year to prepare, bka mahirapan na kme to get suppliers.

well at least, everyone likes the date. Me and groom liked it because it's after the bonus period. We can still use our 13th month pay for the wedding preps. hehehe.

Church search part 1 (makati area)

After settling with the date, our next stop is to search for our church and reception venue. Initially (see other posts), we decided to get Renaissance Hotel as our reception venue, so we have to look for a church na very near sa hotel. I actually have a criteria for our church, which are:
1. air conditioned - for everyone's comfort
2. wooden doors - for a dramatic entrance
3. loft accessible to photographer/videographer - for best shots while walking the aisle

Judging from above, our top choice is Sanctuario de San Antonio at Forbes Park, Makati. Who would not fall in love with this church?

Peso power: P25 K, must be an accredited florist, bring your own choir and priest.

Downside: Weekend weddings are strictly for parishioners only.

Next stop is St. Alphonsus Mary De Ligouri at Magallanes....

Peso power: 25K with priest. bring your own choir. must be an accredited florist.

Down side: fully booked for saturday and sunday weddings since september 2009 to february 2010.

We also checked, National Shrine of the Sacred Heart, also somewhere in Makati...

Peso power: 25K with aircon.

Downside: honestly and without offense to the church, parang its too expensive for a 25K rate. I mean, we saw other churches charging the same amount pero mas bago and mas well maintained naman. Mahirap din yn parking and it has glass doors.

We were almost running out of choices for a makati church so we tried other churches na mas malayo sa reception venue.

Nuestra Senora de Gracia at Guadalupe de Viejo, Makati

http://www.folrana.com/blog/?p=737

Peso power : P13K. They have no aircon. Relatively small church which can accomodate only 200 guests. Additional P500 for electricity of photo/video/air cooler.

Down side: Ang init! We did our ocular at 10am on an April morning and mainit tlga. It has a small altar which can accomodate only the couple and priest. Principal sponsor and parents will be seated together with other guests at the pew. Medyo critical yn streets papunta sa church. We were even flagged down by an MMDA after our visit and unfortunately, sumabit pa kme sa bus ramp. (hay! gumastos pa ko ng P2K to have my side skirt fixed!)

Just the same, nagpapencil book kme for a 10am wedding. no commitment naman yn and good for 1 week.

Another option for us is St. Michael the Archangel Parish at the Fort Bonifacio City.

(no photo available). You can view video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sL7XvN-_d8

Peso Power: 5,500

Down side: It is beside a cemetery for american soldies who died during the world war. Im not sure of the name of the cemetery pero overlooking tlga sya. As in, paglabas mo ng church, makikita mo na sya kz elevated yn position ng church. It has glass doors din and parang chapel type yn style nya.

We also had our pencil booking for this church kz mas malapit sya sa reception. As compared to Nuestra Senora church, travel time from St. Michael to Renaissance would only be 25 minutes including the traffic na. Sa Nuestra kasi, bka abutin ng 45 minutes and madame pa chances na mahuhuli ng MMDA yn mga guests namen, just like what happened to us, especially kung di familiar sa streets in Guadalupe.

In all of these ocular ng mga churches, ksama ko si future groom. In some cases, I would observe na mern na sya resistance, hehehe, but choosing a church is a major decision so as much as I would like to do it on my own, he literally drags himself to go with me for the ocular of the churches. We did the ocular on different dates naman, problem lang is mainit tlga that time with temperature ranging from 35-38 C.

And then, we changed our reception venue to a hotel somewhere in Manila.........
